Becoming a Member
Joining our Congregation
We appreciate and value the fact that everyone is different, with different needs, goals and schedules. To become a Member of UUCOC, please talk to our Congregation Board President, Kirsten LaBauve and set up a time to sign the Membership Book. We know that, for some, “joining” any organization can be a difficult step. Rest assured that we at UUCOC respect your timetable.
When you become a member, you will be asked to sign a Pledge Card. Although money is necessary to run any organization, if you are experiencing financial difficulties, a pledge of your time and talents can be just as valuable. A list of the types of time and talent contributions can be found here:
Research conducted by the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) suggests that most people who attend religious institutions are seeking community by developing friendships. They are also interested in becoming involved in local issues, and seeking intellectual stimulation and spiritual growth.
To find your personal community of friends, we suggest you consider singing with the choir, participating in the Social Justice Ministry, or taking advantage of the many volunteer opportunities available. As a guest, you are welcome to participate in any of our groups and activities.
Governing Our Church
Service as an Officer or Trustee
UU Churches govern themselves, and every member qualified to vote is eligible to be an Officer or Trustee of the Church. The Leadership Development Committee is responsible for selecting a slate of officers and presenting it to the congregation at the annual spring parish meeting. Nominations may also be made from the floor.
The elected officers of the Board of Trustees are: President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. The two elected Trustees are also a part of this Board, as is the most recent Past President. Additionally elected are members of the Endowment Committee and the Leadership Development Committee.
The Board meets once a month—check the website calendar or your newsletter for the date. Our Board Meetings are open to all. To bring an issue before the Board, contact the President at least a week prior to the meeting, and ask to be added to the agenda.
